FAQ

Questions from foreign counsel

Can we designate Bangladesh through the Madrid Protocol?
Not yet. Bangladesh is preparing to accede (WIPO and DPDT held a Madrid System seminar in Dhaka in May 2026), but until accession takes effect, trademarks must be filed nationally at DPDT through a local agent. We will handle Madrid designations and provisional refusals once Bangladesh joins.
Is there a PCT national phase for Bangladesh?
No. Bangladesh is not a PCT Contracting State. Patent applications are filed directly at DPDT, normally claiming Paris Convention priority within 12 months (6 months for designs).
What documents do you need to file a trademark for our client?
Applicant details, a clear representation of the mark, the specification of goods/services, and a power of attorney signed by the applicant. For a priority claim, the priority details and a certified copy. Send them by email and we confirm the filing requirements by return.
How do you bill?
We agree fees in writing before work starts, quote fixed fees for standard prosecution stages, and offer consolidated monthly invoicing to regular instructing firms. Request our current schedule at info@visionaryipbd.com.
Who will handle our matters?
Advocates of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh who practise at DPDT daily, led by Advocate Md. Jumon Ali. You have direct access to the responsible advocate.
